“Forbearance,” directed by Lana Read, is a gut-wrenching yet powerful film that was released via United Front Films.
The screenplay by Cedric Gegel (who also plays Jonah Sunbury in the film) is melancholically beautiful.
After a sudden terminal cancer diagnosis, a teacher named Callie Sunbury (played vivaciously by Juli Tapken) and her factory worker husband, Josh Sunbury (Travis Hancock) work to save their marriage from the teetering edge of divorce. Travis is devastating as Josh, and watching his character deteriorate over the course of this movie is bound to move the audience on an emotional level.
Veteran actor Vernon Wells delivers a raw and subtle performance as Dr. George Ross, who is the bearer of bad news for Josh informing him he has cancer and that it metastasized.
Paul Logan also stars as Bo Erb, and it is great to watch him go from the typical action star he plays in most of his movies to a heartfelt and controlled performance that really showcases his wide range as an actor. Without giving too much away, Logan and Hancock share a pivotal scene together that really tugs at the heartstrings.
It was interesting to see the tense relationship between Josh and his son Jonah, as well as the back-and-forth family dynamics with Callie.
The ensemble cast of actors brought something unique to this film. Kudos to Lana Read for all-around good job casting and directing this movie. “Forbearance” is worth checking out and it garners two thumbs up.
