“That’s Amor,” starring Riley Dandy and Issac Gonzalez Rossi, is an impressive new original romantic comedy that premiered on August 25 on the popular streaming service Netflix.
It was directed by Shaun Paul Piccinino, written by John Ducey, and it was produced by Ali Afshar, Daniel Aspromante, and Tiffany Dupont of Esx Entertainment.
Aside from lead actors Riley Dandy and Issac Gonzalez Rossi, it stars Nancy Lenehan, Emmy winner Bryan Craig (“General Hospital”), Kimberly Drummond, Christina Moore, John Ducey, Arlene Tur, Emmy nominee Gregory Zarian, and Paul Witten.
The synopsis is as follows: After her job and relationship implode on the same day (she catches her former boyfriend cheating), Sofia (Riley Dandy) starts from scratch and meets Matias (Issac Gonzalez Rossi), a dashing Spanish chef who might be her missing ingredient.
If that weren’t unfortunate enough, she breaks her ankle, so she moves back in with her mother. They join a cooking class (where they will learn how to make Spanish summer dishes), where Matias works.
Riley Dandy is bubbly and insatiable as Sofia, while Isaac Gonzalez Rossi is charming, understanding, and nonchalant as Matias. Bryan Craig also delivers as Sofia’s ex-boyfriend Richard.
Also, if one pays close attention to this movie, it is rich in motifs and symbolism.
Overall, “That’s Amor” is an amusing new original Netflix movie by Shaun Paul Piccinino. Every actor in this ensemble film brings something noteworthy to the table, and it is worth checking out. “That’s Amor” is uplifting, and it garners four out of five stars. Nicely done.
